Architecture Comparison: Static vs Dynamic QR Codes

CapabilityStatic QR Code (Free)Dynamic QR Code (Pro)
Data Storage MechanismPayload encoded directly into black-and-white modulesShort URL redirect pointing to cloud-managed endpoint
Expiration & LifecyclePermanent: Never expires, zero subscription requiredActive with ongoing account access
Post-Print Destination EditingFixed at generation time (cannot change)Editable anytime from online dashboard
Scan Volume & AnalyticsNone (100% private and decentralized)Real-time scan counts, device OS, and time series
Offline Scanning CapabilityYes: Scannable with zero internet connection (WiFi / vCard / Text)Requires cellular or WiFi data to complete redirect
The 10:1 Optical Rule

Minimum Width = Scanning Distance divided by 10

For smartphone cameras to focus cleanly without digital zoom artifacts, the physical width of the QR code matrix should measure at least one-tenth of the distance between the scanner and the printed item.

Example Calculation
2.0 m → 20 cm

6.5 ft scanning distance requires a 7.9-inch wide QR code

Core QR Vocabulary and Definitions

Quiet Zone
The solid white margin surrounding all four sides of a QR code. It must measure at least four module widths to prevent surrounding text or graphics from interfering with optical camera sensors.
Finder Pattern (Position Detection Eyes)
The three concentric square targets positioned in the upper-left, upper-right, and lower-left corners of the matrix. They allow mobile cameras to recognize orientation at any 360-degree angle.
Vector SVG Export
Scalable Vector Graphics XML format that renders paths mathematically rather than as fixed pixel grids. Allows infinite scaling for massive billboards, retail signage, and vehicle wraps without blur.
Luminance Contrast Ratio
The relative brightness difference between dark modules and the light background. Reliable camera scanning requires a minimum 4.5:1 ratio, with 7:1 or higher recommended for printed signage.
